What Back To School Means For Moms

The back-to-school scent is in the air. The streets are now covered with kids waiting at the bus stop and mothers of the world are desperately sucking back caffeine through their straws before racing to get the kids to school on time.

I remember as a child, the thought of wearing new clothes and setting up my desk was exciting for me. Not to mention I got to see my friends and looked forward to going to soccer games and dances with my besties. My kids don’t have a hint of excitement as they head back to school, but I still have the same butterflies dance in the stomach that I used in the fall.

The fall always feels like a fresh start to me– even more so than when the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, and my mom friends feel the same.

While there are so many things I love about having my kids home during the summer– the freedom, the going to the lake or pool instead of showering, the later bedtime– it always feels good to get back at it, and settle into a routine again.

Yes, the sun sets earlier and there are sweaters to shake out and pull on instead of living in bathing suit and out favorite cut-off shorts, but there is something about getting back into a routine that can make a mother feel more settled even if we are trading in long, lazy days at the beach for an early alarm and packing lunches every night.

When the kids get back into regular sleeping and eating patterns, so do we. Mothers come to life again and actually know what day of the week it is. And I for one am more in the mood for sexy time when I’m hydrated, the days are shorter, and I’m eat and sleeping properly.

Whether you work or stay at home, there’s something really exciting about knowing the house is empty during the days when the kids are at school. Calling your partner to meet you on the sofa, floor, bed, or in a middle bath for an afternoon delight is wonderful– you can take your time and not worry if you are being too loud and will wake the kids up.

Adding in a new toy can spice things up and give you the spark you are looking for to make scheduling connection, foreplay, and sex more of a priority. If you haven’t tried the We Vibe Sync, I suggest you start there. Its shape is perfect to enjoy many different sexual positions, and for added fun, you can let you partner get their hands on the remote control and have their way with you hands-free.

And we all love a good masturbation session without hearing the sound of little footsteps, or one of our kids interrupting us because they need a snack. The Tango is perfect for that with its compact size and easy portability. I may or may not have a secret compartment under my sofa for my little gem when the mood strikes.

While you are getting back into schedule-mode, and vacations and family visitors are winding down, it’s a great time to get back into scheduling regular sex if that is what works for you. Since you are already marking down when soccer practice and which days your kids need to return their library books, you might as well schedule some time to reconnect with your partner, or with yourself.

So many times, intimacy can fall to the back burner when our lives are busy, and when we fall out of a routine. Back to school time for moms can mean a new beginning to exploring your sexuality. It just takes a little planning on your part, which should be easy since you are already so good at wearing so many hats for your children.

Make sure you don’t for snuff out your desire to be a sexual being in the process.
