Every year on March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day. We saw this day not only as an opportunity to celebrate women, but also as a day to support women’s health research and patient care at The Ottawa Hospital.

It’s challenging the community to make a donation to women’s health and in return, will match every donation – up to a maximum of $50,000.

“The spirit of International Women’s Day is about making women’s lives better, and here in Ottawa the Shirley E. Greenberg Women’s Health Centre is doing that work everyday,” says Melody Murison, co-founder of Standard Innovation. “We are passionate about women’s health and inspired to contribute to help women in our community and improve their wellbeing. Please join us in making a contribution on behalf of the women in your life.”

Dr. Sony Singh, Vice-Chair of Gynecology and the Dr. Elaine Jolly Research Chair in Gynecologic Surgery, at The Ottawa Hospital, uses International Women’s Day as an opportunity to talk about women’s health care issues.

“It’s always surprising to hear how often women brushed off their health concerns or forced themselves to see them as ‘normal.’ Debilitating periods and cramps are not normal and women should not be embarrassed to talk about them,” says Dr. Singh.

He encourages women to open up about their health concerns, so that as a society, we can better understand them. He is also very grateful for the generosity shown by Standard Innovation and their support of women’s health at The Ottawa Hospital.

“This donation, and the support from the community, will help us further our research in understanding and treating women’s health issues,” says Dr. Singh.

Take part in this International Women’s Day challenge and make a donation today in honour of your mother, sister, wife, friend and daughter.
